Minimising the risks for online gaming

  • 1. Use strong passwords on gaming accounts
  • 2. Don’t share any personal information while gaming, stick to usernames
  • 3. Only download and play games from trusted sources
  • 4. Pick an anonymous username – this can avoid having your online games linked to the digital footprint associated with your real name
  • 5. Enable Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) – this is usually a code sent to your phone to verify it is you when logging in
  • 6. Keep your gaming software updated as these can include security patches that fix known vulnerabilities
  • 7. Use a credit card to make purchases if possible as these offer more protection from fraudulent charges
  • 8. If someone is acting suspicious or aggressive – block them!
