Using search engines is a great way to find out the information that you are looking for.
You may be wanting to find the best recipe or looking to shop online.
A search engine enables you to find specific information that you need. It’s usually a dedicated website but it can take the form of an 'app' on an internet-enabled device, or it could simply be a 'search window' on a website.
There are lots of different search engines that you can use. One of the main search engines is Google.
How to use the Google search engine
It’s simple and easy to use Google. Here are the steps you will need to take:
Step 1: On your web browser go to www.google.com
Step 2: Use your mouse to click on the text box under the Google logo and type in what you are looking to find using your keyboard.
When you are typing Google will make suggestions for what your search is going to be for, based on things that other people have searched for.
Step 3: To begin your search, click on one of the suggestions using your computer mouse or finish off typing what you are looking for to begin your search.
Step 4: Once you have done your search, you will be given a list of results. The ones that Google thinks are most relevant to your search will appear closer to the top of your page.
To see your results, simply scroll down the page using your mouse. There is also an arrow bar on the right-hand side of the page that you can click on to scroll down the page.
Step 5: To open a result, click on the large coloured text to open a result. The text that is below this will provide you with more information on what the result will show.
Step 6: If you want to keep your search page open and not navigate away from it, right click on the coloured text and select ‘open link with new tab’.
